Speaking Of Safety Laser Scanners And Millimeter Wave Radars, It Is Not Unfamiliar To People In The Industry.

Speaking of safety laser scanners and millimeter wave radars, it is not unfamiliar to people in the industry. Safety laser scanners are radar systems that emit laser beams to detect the position, speed and other characteristics of the target. The millimeter wave radar refers to the radar that works in the millimeter wave band. Millimeter waves are essentially electromagnetic waves. The frequency band of millimeter wave is special, its frequency is higher than radio, lower than visible light and infrared, and the frequency range is roughly 10GHz-200GHz. This is a frequency band that is particularly suitable for the automotive field. So what is the difference between a safety laser scanner and a millimeter wave radar? Let's find out with Xiaobian!

In terms of working principle, the safety laser scanner is basically similar to the millimeter wave radar, which uses echo imaging to construct the detected object, which is commensurate with the difference between human detection with both eyes and bats relying on ultrasonic detection. However, the electromagnetic wave emitted by the lidar is a straight line, and the emission of light particles is an important method. The electromagnetic wave emitted by the millimeter-wave radar is a cone-shaped beam. The antenna of this band is mainly electromagnetic radiation.

In terms of detection accuracy, the safety laser scanner has the advantages of high detection accuracy, wide detection range and strong stability. In terms of accuracy, the detection distance of the millimeter wave radar is directly restricted by the loss of the frequency band (if you want to detect far, then High-frequency radar must be used), pedestrians cannot be sensed, and all stagnation around cannot be accurately modeled. This is much worse than Lidar.

In terms of anti-interference ability, because the safety laser scanner detects by emitting a beam, it is greatly affected by the environment, and the beam cannot be used normally after being blocked, so it cannot be turned on in rain, snow, haze, sand and dust storms, and other harsh climates. The millimeter-wave guide has a strong ability to penetrate fog, smoke, and dust, so it can be detected in a bad climate. In this regard, millimeter-wave radar is superior.

In terms of price, the safety laser scanner is more accurate than the millimeter-wave radar in ranging and identifying stagnant objects, but because the amount of data obtained by the safety laser scanner is far more than the millimeter-wave radar, a higher-performance processor is necessary to process The data website is optimized, the cost is high, and the price is naturally more expensive. But Lidar can be more assured in its accuracy.

Through the above comparison, we found that the safety laser scanner and the millimeter wave radar have their own advantages and disadvantages, and no one can replace them. The two happen to complement each other and learn from each other.
